Kinnear II, a highly decorated naval aviator who flew more than 100 combat missions in Korea and Vietnam flying every combat aircraft the Navy had during his career, making over 1,000 carrier landings. He rose from enlisted ranks to command “Fighter Town U.S.A.,” Carrier Group Two, was the Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Secretary of the Navy, and served as the U.S. Military Representative to NATO. He was a high-school dropout, but went on to earn Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from George Washington University and, subsequently, a Master’s and a PhD from Stanford University. He ended his professional career as President of the University of New Hampshire.
