| Amitabh Bachchan was born on 11th October 1942, in Allahabad, United Provinces, British India (present-day Uttar Pradesh). His ancestors hail from a village called Babupatti, Raniganj Tehsil, Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. His mother, Teji Bachchan, a social activist, was brought up at Lyallpur, Punjab. His father Harivansh Rai Bachchan , a poet, was fluent in Awadhi Hindi and Urdu. Bachchan was initially named as “Inqualab”, inspired by the phrase “Inqualab Zindabad” (which translates into English as “Long live the revolution”).
